I have been working with the IT industry for more than 12 years and the WFH/WFO culture has significantly contributed to tremendous stress and hectic schedule, which has been taking a toll on my health.

After closely observing my routine, I’ve noticed that an excessive workload can really take a toll on me, both physically and mentally. Here are six warning signs that I’ve been burnt out because of my workload:

1. Constant Fatigue
I feel tired all the time, no matter how much I rest. Even after a full night’s sleep, I still wake up exhausted.

2. Decreased Productivity
I’ve noticed that I’m not as productive as I used to be. Tasks take longer, and I often struggle with motivation, creativity, and even experience brain fog.

3. Frequent Illness
Burnout seems to have weakened my immune system. I’ve been getting sick more often, dealing with digestive issues, and catching colds frequently.

4. Constant Headaches
Stress from burnout has led to recurring headaches. Sometimes, I even experience back pain, nausea, and muscle fatigue.

Solution that actually worked for me !!!

  • Prioritize Self-Care Make time for myself every day. Whether it’s a short walk, reading a book, or practicing mindfulness, self-care helps recharge me my energy and reduce stress.
  • Set Boundaries Learn to say “no” when you’re overloaded. Setting clear boundaries at work can prevent tasks from piling up and overwhelming us.
  • Break Tasks into Manageable Chunks Break down my workload into smaller, manageable tasks. This can make me to-do list feel less daunting and help me stay focused.
  • Take Regular Breaks Don’t underestimate the power of short breaks. Step away from my work periodically to clear my mind and relax. Even a 5-minute break can make a difference.
  • Seek Support Talking to my manager, colleagues, or a mentor about how you’re feeling. They might offer help or adjust my workload to ease the pressure.
  • Consult a Professional If burnout persists, I had also considered talking to a therapist or counselor. Because they can provide personalized strategies to help you manage stress and prevent burnout from taking over.

Conclusion
These are just a few warning signs that I’m burnt out due to my workload. If you’re feeling the same, it might be a good idea to talk to a therapist to get some help. The solutions suggested above are actually which worked for me 🙂

Feel free to help me add more to this list above or suggest me some changes.
