After staying in the IT industry for over 12+ years, cracking more than half a dozen interviews with MNC’ companies and been involved in the hiring process for more than 7 years, I have observed few common mistakes done not just by freshers but also mid scale professionals.

Current article is my attempt to address this issue in the industry and how professionals can perform good in the introductory part of the interview. The below mentioned views are personal 🙂

How you introduce yourself in an interview can set the tone for the entire experience. Striking the right balance between talking about your educational background and who you are as a person is key.

1. Begin with a Confident Greeting

Starting with confidence is crucial. When you walk into the room, greet the interviewer with a smile and a firm handshake. Then, introduce yourself clearly.

For example, I might say: “Good morning, I’m Mr. X. It’s great to meet you.”

2. Briefly Outline Your Professional Background

After introducing yourself, give a brief overview of your professional experience, especially the parts that are most relevant to the job you’re applying for.

For instance, I could say: “I have over five years of experience in project management, where I’ve successfully led teams to complete projects efficiently and on time.”

3. Highlight Your Unique Strengths

Before the interview, I always make sure to thoroughly review the job description. This allows me to focus on the unique strengths I bring to the table that match the needs of the role.

For example: “One of my main strengths is my ability to streamline processes and improve efficiency, which I believe would be very valuable in this role in XYZ organization”

4. Relate Your Experience to the Position

It’s important to show the interviewer how my previous experience makes me a good fit for the job. I do this by connecting my past achievements to what the company needs.

For example: “In my last job, I implemented a new scheduling system that cut downtime by 15%. I’m eager to bring this kind of innovation to your company.”

5. Express Genuine Enthusiasm

Finally, I always make sure to express my enthusiasm for the role and the company. I talk about why I’m excited about this opportunity and how I see myself contributing to the company’s goals.

For example: “I’m really excited about this role because of your company’s focus on innovation and growth. These are values I strongly share, and I’m looking forward to contributing to your team.”

These are few pointers from my end, if you would like to know more, do not hesitate to connect to me via Linkedin.

Thanks 🙂
