Interest in Generative AI (GenAI) is surging among Indians, according to various reports. Last year, someone in India enrolled in GenAI content on Coursera every three minutes. Remarkably, India has surpassed the US in terms of engagement with GenAI learning. The country has witnessed a staggering 1,648% year-on-year growth rate, compared to a global growth rate of 1,060%.
With the increasing interest in AI within India, top courses being pursued by Indian learners include Introduction to GenAI, Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT, Generative AI for Everyone, GenAI Large Language Models, and Google’s AI Essentials.
This trend isn’t limited to younger generations; senior and middle-level management employees are also upskilling to stay relevant in the evolving job market. Those in managerial leadership roles lead the way at 23%, followed by interns at 22%, senior individual contributors at 21%, junior individual contributors at 18%, directors at 10%, and executive management at 3%.
Among Indian states, Maharashtra, the financial hub, leads with 19% of the enrollments, followed by Karnataka at 13%, Tamil Nadu at 12%, NCR at 10%, and Punjab at 5%.
Additionally, men in India are more engaged with GenAI than women, with 72% of the engagement coming from men and only 28% from women.
